Just Another Monday By LazyFox Part One Skye sighed as he drove to work in his rusted '76 Pinto. It was like every other weekday. Wake up, go to school, go to his job, go home, do some homework, and go to bed. Only it was Monday, his least favorite day. Monday's had the extra "benefit" of following the weekend, preserving his hatred for just having to go to school and work. He arrived at "Tony's Pizza", the parlor where he had spent his afternoons since he started working there when he was 15. Now 18, and a senior in high school, he had worked his way up to assistant manager, but it still only paid just over minimum wage. Skye walked in, the usual hustle already in full swing. He recognized a lot of familiar faces, like he did every other day. His boss, fellow employees, and a few kids from school that were coming in for a late afternoon lunch. He walked behind the counter, putting on his apron, and started to take orders immediately. Skye grumbled to himself. Mondays were the days he had to work at the counter, and he hated doing that. He always had the luck of meeting up with the rudest, most obnoxious customers. One wolf-lady complained about the pizza being too hot, then returned moments later demanding a refund because it had cooled off too fast. A male dragon started to gripe about the unclean conditions around the whole parlor. Skye tried to block out their complaints, looking at the clock on the wall. He had only been there for half an hour. "It's gonna be a long day." he moaned in his head. Suddenly the boisterous voice of his boss called him to the office in the back. "For once I'm glad to hear his voice." Skye thought for second, taking off his apron and walking back to the backroom. His boss was a pig, literally. He was the epitome of a boss: Fat, grumpy, disgusting, and generally unpleasant to be around. "Skye" the boss said through bites. He was eating a few slices of pizza, which he probably didn't pay for. "We've had to make a few changes around the parlor. Y'know, financing and the like." "Um, but what does this have to do with me, sir?" Skye asked in a confused, yet somewhat apathetical voice. The boss turned to look Skye in the eyes. "Skye, it means we have to cut your salary. I'm sorry but if we want this place to stay in business we're going to have to all make some sacrifices." the boss replied around his chomps of free pizza. Skye's eyes widened, obviously upset at the situation. "What? I've been working here for three years! I'm your assistant for crying out loud! What about the low level people that we just hired? What about them?" he yelled. He didn't bother to point out the hypocrisy that the boss was demonstrating as he ate. "They're all fired Skye, I called them up this morning." replied the boss, licking the sauce off his lips. "Which reminds me, I'm going to have to ask you to stay a little later for the rest of the week. I won't ask you to stay later today, on such short notice however." At that Skye stormed out of the office and walked back to the counter, putting on his apron and getting back to work. Jason, a monkey that he had met in the parlor, and now a friend, turned his head to Skye while he kept kneading the pizza dough. "Skye, what's up? I heard you yelling back in the boss's office and now you come storming out here like a bat out of hell." Skye half ignored Jason but quickly came to his senses. "Jason, it's so unfair. I've worked here for the longest time, and I still don't make nearly as much as I should be. Not to mention that bastard just cut my salary and he's forcing me to work overtime, all because he can't see what's wrong with him eating our profits away. I'm just a student, and I'm only one fox, I don't know if I can handle this." Skye said. His voice was half anger and half dismay as he talked to his friend. Jason turned back to the dough, continuing his work. "Ouch man. That sucks, I wish there was something I could do. All I can say is I hope it gets better." Skye shook his head at Jason. "It's not your fault." he replied. "But thanks for saying that, it means a lot to me." He looked to the clock, realizing he had quite a ways to go until his shift was done. Skye took a heavy sigh and kept taking orders for what seemed like an eternity. A while later, Skye looked at the clock again. "Six o'clock" he said to himself. "Time for the regulars to come in." he said with a slight smile on his face. The door opened suddenly, and a rag tag group of friends entered, about ten of them. Usually there was between ten and fifteen of them, today there weren't that many, but they always seemed to get along fine either way. The one wolf stepped up, ordering two sheet pizzas, plain cheese, like he did every Monday. It cost him $10.99 like it did every Monday, and he paid with a $20 like he did every Monday. Skye took the money, handing the wolf his change, and the wolf promptly returned to talking with his friends. About fifteen minutes later, the pizzas were done, and he grabbed them off the counter, thanking Skye and walking back out of the shop with his friends. As soon as they left, a large family of rabbits entered, the parents trying to keep their seven or so kids under control. The father stepped up to the counter while the mother played with the kids in the entrance, keeping them occupied. The father, as always, ordered one large pepperoni pizza, and two slices of cheese pizza (which Skye had assumed were for himself and his wife, while the large was for the children). Skye played through the routine, taking the total, taking the money, and giving out the change. Again, fifteen minutes passed, and Jason placed the finished food on the counter. Amongst the screaming, shouting, and yelling that the little ones produced, the dad managed to yell above them, "Alright let's go home and eat!" Somehow the kids always seemed to hear him, and a chorus of "Yay!" and "I'm hungry!" filled the restaurant. The family left the parlor as always, mother in the lead, the band of kids in the middle, and the dad picking up the rear. A few more recognizable faces came in and out of the shop between six and eight. Skye left at eight-thirty, as did Jason, and they both looked at the clock when it was 8:15, breathing a sigh of relief that their day was almost done. Jason started to pack up his workstation, cleaning up the scraps of dough and munching on the spare cheese and pepperoni that were left over. The workers that came in and worked until midnight just threw it all out anyway. Skye however remained at the counter, anxious for something. He walked back and picked up a single slice of cheese pizza, putting it in a container and waiting at the cash register. The bells on the door rang, indicating a customer. It was a lone patron, a snow leopard that Skye had seen in school. Skye looked at the clock, "8:25, right on time." he muttered to himself, smiling at the same time. The snow leopard approached the counter, looking at Skye. They both smiled, although the leopard tried to avoid eye contact. Skye could tell he was shy. "I'll um. have. um. my usual." the feline said softly. Skye chuckled a bit. "Got it ready right here Jak." he replied, pushing the carton toward the leopard. Jak was still in his work clothes. He worked at a hardware store about a mile away, and stopped in every Monday to get a single slice of cheese pizza, probably a late dinner. His shirt was still dirty with oil and soot from working in the store, and his hair was a little messed up from his hat, which he held off to his side. Jak handed $1.50 to Skye with his free paw. He thanked Skye, and cradled the container in his paw and forearm, turning to exit the store as the night shift came in. Skye started to take off his apron when he heard Jason start to talk. "Hey Skye, what's up with you and that Jak guy? Every time he walks in here you get really strange. You got a crush on him or something?" He knew Skye was gay, but he had an open mind about things, so he felt nothing wrong about it. He knew Skye was ok with him asking that kind of question too. Skye chuckled a bit, turning around to Jason and leaning against the counter. "Dunno Jason, maybe. I think he's kinda cute, what do you think?" Jason gave Skye a playful but annoyed look. "Look Skye, I'm alright with you and everything but." Skye interrupted him, laughing a bit. "I'm just joking with you Jason. I wouldn't really ask you something like that. But yeah, I've seen him around school. He's really quiet and shy, it gets me thinking." Jason smiled at the fox. "That's what you always say, 'It gets me thinking'. It's all you think about." "No it's not, you're exaggerating." "Am not, you always say it!" Skye growled a bit. "Even so, what's it to you?" Jason smiled again, "I guess nothing, just pointing it out." Skye hopped over the counter. "Well if you're done ridiculing me, I'm gonna head home now." "Alright, I'm just finishing cleaning a bit. I'll see you tomorrow then, same time same place." Jason replied, concentrating on finishing up as fast as he could. Skye sighed, already halfway out of the shop. "Yeah, same time same place." The sound of Skye's Pinto could be heard squealing out of the parking lot. Jason exited the shop just in time to see Skye round the corner to head home. "Yeah, see ya tomorrow." Jason said to himself. Part Two The rest of the week went by surprisingly fast for Skye, despite having to stay an extra hour every day. It was Saturday before he knew it, and took the time to savor the weekend. He couldn't get Jak out of his mind. The soft, white fur and shy, subtle smile filled his thoughts as he lay on his bed in the early afternoon sunlight, relaxing from a hard weeks' work. His thoughts suddenly shifted from tame to not so tame, as Jak's image quickly went from clothed to being in the buff. Skye could only imagine what was under the work and school clothes that he had seen Jak in, but he had a good enough idea from watching his every move and body curve. His feline form was beautiful, pure, untouched in his mind, like a fresh snowfall. His thin but not skinny form was ideal for Skye, complementing his crystal blue eyes and short, spiked black hair. These thoughts quickly got Skye excited, and he yipped a little as his shorts became less like clothing and more like a restraint, feeling his growing erection pushing against the khaki shorts. He quickly unbuttoned and unzipped them, pulling them off along with his boxer shorts, and threw them on the floor. His length stood at full attention already, the six and a half inch fleshy member free from it's sheath, and a little bit of pre already oozing out of the tip. Skye pulled his shirt up and over his head, throwing it to the left of him on his bed, and closed his eyes, going back to imagining Jak in full form in front of him. He reached his paw down and gripped his cock lightly, stroking it slowly and imagining Jak doing the same. A little more pre oozed out, and onto his paw as he rubbed it along his length, lubricating it as his paw continued to slide up and down. Skye continued his fantasy, imagining Jak approaching him, and pulling him into a tight embrace, pulling their muzzles together and kissing passionately. He arced his back slightly, gripping the sheets with his free paw as he increased his pace and pressure on his cock, rubbing it vigorously. His breaths began to shallow out, and his toes curled as he imagined Jak pressing his body up against his own, rubbing their two erect members together and continuing to kiss deeply. He moaned lightly, and arced his back slightly more, feeling a vibe of ecstasy course through his body, signaling his approaching climax. Yet again Skye increased the pressure on his throbbing cock, along with his pace, hastening his jerks significantly. He fantasized Jak hitting his peak, his seed flying onto Skye's chest and matting the fur slightly. Almost simultaneously, Skye felt his own member swell, moaning heavily as he released his load in a wave of pleasure, drop after drop of his seed spilling onto his chest and forming small pools in his fur. The last few bits trickled onto his paw, and he squeezed out every last drop, again, getting it on his paw. He lay there for a moment, basking in the afterglow, and letting his breathing return to normal. He then licked his paw clean, and grabbed the shirt he had previously thrown off, wiping off his chest and stomach. He threw the shirt in the hamper and proceeded to pull a fresh one out of his dresser, quickly throwing it on. He bent down to grab his boxers and shorts, and quickly put those on too. Skye flopped down on his bed, resting his head on his paws. He mumbled, "If I touch my homework before Sunday night it'll be news to me." His phone suddenly rang, startling him. He sat up and swung his legs over the side of his bed, picking up the phone off his nightstand in the same movement. "Hello?" he asked. "Heya Skye, whatcha doin'?" a familiar voice on the other end asked. It was his friend, Rebecca. She was a panda, an exchange student from China who had come over early in the school year. "Oh heya Becca. Bleh, nothing much. I'm just hanging out in my room, taking time to appreciate how much I hate working and going to school." A laugh filled the receiver, and Becca kept talking. "Well, me and the gang are going to go see that new movie that came out yesterday. You wanna come see it?" Skye wrinkled his nose at the suggestion. "Isn't that a romance movie? Y'know a Chick Flick?" "Hey, c'mon Skye. I know it's not your favorite, action, blow-em-up stuff, but I picked up a few free passes through my dad's workplace. It wont cost you anything." Skye sighed a bit. Not the ideal way he had wanted to spend his weekend, but he would see his friends at least. And it sure as hell beat sitting around in his house all day. "Yeah alright, I suppose I'll come with you guys." Skye said. "Alright!" Becca shouted into the phone. Skye had to pull the phone away from his ear for a second. She was always loud. "Meet us at the theater in half an hour, 'kay?" "Wait, which thea." Skye started to ask, but Becca had already hung up. He put down the phone. "Wonderful." Skye spent the next ten minutes looking through the paper. The only theater showing the said movie at that time was about half an hour away from where he lived. He groaned, ran out to his car and started the long drive. He arrived ten minutes late. Luckily, Becca was still waiting for him at the main entrance with his free ticket. Skye looked at her with a slightly annoyed stare. "At least you remembered to wait outside. Thanks for telling me which theater it was." he remarked sarcastically. Becca blushed a bit. "Oh c'mon, don't be so sore about it. I bet the previews haven't even finished yet. You still have time to get a drink or a snack." she said, and without another word, walked inside to the theater. Skye presented his voucher to the ticket booth operator, and received his ticket in return. He opened the doors to the theater, and the air conditioning instantly hit him. Like all movie theaters, this one felt the need to chill the air to sub-arctic temperatures for some unbeknownst reason. He kept walking up to the snack bar, and ordered a bag of gummy bears along with a medium cola. Skye took out his wallet, realizing he was down to his last five dollars. Not surprisingly, the snacks cost $4.75, because again, like it is to all movie theaters, food is a commodity not a necessity, and therefore they can jack up the prices. Skye grumbled a bit and took his quarter change, along with his food, and made his way to the appropriate theater. He quickly found Becca, along with the regular gang. They were easily spotted, or heard rather; a noisy bunch. Becca was right though, the previews were still rolling, as they often did for every movie. Being a newly released movie, the theater was packed tight, with only a few seats here and there to spare. Becca had saved Skye a seat next to her, and he was now at the left end of the group line. "Hey guys." Skye said to the line of friends. He was answered by a round of "Hey" and "Hiya Skye". Quickly taking his seat, he casually noticed that he was two seats from the end, and the seat to the left of him was empty. "Oh great." Skye thought to himself. "It's gonna be one of those weirdoes that manage to sit next to me." He sighed, watching the rest of the previews that came up, talking in hushed voices to Becca and the rest of his friends. Soon the lights dimmed, signaling the start of the movie. Becca made a slight squealing noise. She loved these kind of movies. Leaning over to Skye, she whispered in his ear, "I know you'll like it, even if it doesn't have guns or explosions or anything else that goes boom." "Bleh." Skye said as he stuck out his tongue at the screen. He took a sip of his coke, looking at his watch. "2:45." he said to himself. He thought a second. The movie was supposed to last two hours. "Good, I'll be back in time for dinner at least, considering I'm pretty much flat broke now." The movie got under way, and Skye was beginning to regret his decision to join the crew at the theater. Sure it was fun for Becca, she enjoyed these kind of movies. And the rest of his friends had dates, so they would enjoy it as well. As for Skye, he was pretty much alone. He slunk down in his chair, munching on the gummies and sipping his cola occasionally, not paying much attention to the gigantic screen in front of him. He looked at his watch. "2:47." he mumbled. "It's gonna be a long two hours." Skye moaned quietly. Becca turned her attention to Skye. "Shhh! I'm trying to pay attention to this!" she said in a hushed voice. Skye made a noise that sort of resembled gurgling to show his discontent, but Becca ignored him. He sighed, resting his elbow on the armrest of the chair and in turn rested his head on his paw. His ears perked slightly as the chair next to him squeaked, indicating that someone had, indeed, sat down. He looked to the left of him, remembering what he had thought to himself earlier. He saw who it was, and quickly turned his head back nervously. It was him, Jak. The only seat left in the theater and of all people to come see the movie left, it had to be him. Skye instantly sat up in his seat, pretending to pay attention to the movie and trying to avoid looking at Jak. Skye couldn't explain it. There was something calm about Jak. His snow white fur was soothing to the eye, and he had eyes like crystal water, clean and blue. On the rare occasions that Jak actually smiled, it was like candy for Skye's soul. Seeing someone else happy was one of his favorite things, and when it was someone like Jak, it really clicked with him. Skye kept pretending to watch the movie. He suddenly felt another paw on his own left paw. It retracted away almost the same moment it touched, and he heard Jak's voice say, "Oops, sorry 'bout that". The feel of Jak's paw on his own sent shivers down Skye's spine. He didn't even think to respond to Jak's apology. Instead he imagined himself in the scene that was on the screen, with Jak. Two characters locked in a passionate embrace; muzzle to muzzle, enjoying each other's kiss as they stood outside on a cool, spring day. His fantasy continued beyond what was on the screen as he sat in his seat, completely lost in his mind, unaware of his current surroundings. Skye myrred slightly, gently leaning back in his seat. Jak casually glanced over at him, confused. Becca noticed too, and gently shook Skye's shoulder. "Skye. Skye! You alright there?" she said in a hushed voice. Skye came out of his trance. His eyes opened wide, realizing where he was. "Oh jeez!" he exclaimed lightly, noticing Jak was still looking at him. He had gotten a bit too excited, and feeling a bulge in his shorts building, decided to excuse himself for a bit. "Becca I'll be back, I gotta use the restroom." he whispered to her. "Alright Skye, we'll still be here." Becca calmly replied. Skye stood up and started to move the short distance to the aisle. His tail brushed against Jak's face a little on his way, and Jak giggled a bit. Hearing Jak's laugh got Skye even more excited, and he made haste to get out of the theater. In the hallway of the theater, Skye kept walking toward the bathroom while thoughts raced through his mind. "What was that all about, that fantasy?" "You don't even know the guy, Skye. What's going on?" "Do you think he could be.?" Skye shrugged it off, and made his way into the bathroom. He turned on the cold faucet on one of the sinks, and splashed his face in the water. "Calm down Skye, it was just some random encounter. It's pure coincidence that he was there." Skye said to himself. "But what was he doing there by himself?" he thought. Skye left the bathroom after he had calmed himself down a bit. He looked at the theater doors and reached for the handle, pulling back slightly, deciding that he'd rather not go back in. Instead he walked down the hallway, exited the building, and sat out on the curb for a while, watching the passing cars while he waited for his friends to come out. He occasionally glimpsed at his watch every now and then. "4:50, they should be here soon." he said. No sooner had those words left his mouth than the door behind him opened and his friends poured through. He stood up off the curb, and joined in the conversation. "Where did you go? I was beginning to get worried!" Becca said. "Oh yeah, about that." Skye stuttered. "Well, I couldn't find my ticket stub, so they wouldn't let me back into the theater. No big deal." He gave Becca a quick hug and continued. "I'm gonna get going then, I'm kinda out of cash and that means if I want to eat tonight I'll have to be home for dinner." Becca nodded. "Alright then Skye. Thanks for at least coming out here with us for a bit. I've been worried about you. You work yourself sick, at school and at that pizza place. You need a break now and then, you know." "Don't worry Becca, I'll be fine." he responded. "Take care." Skye turned to walk to his car as Becca waved goodbye. He opened the driver side door with a sigh and got in, turning the ignition. He sped out of the parking lot, getting on the road and pushing his Pinto to the limit as he squeals on the pavement. Part Three On the way home Skye's mind started to race again, all of the thoughts he had in his brain in the bathroom multiplied by ten. They were quickly replaced however as his car started to sputter and spit. Skye looked at the gas gauge; it was empty. "Damnit! How did I not notice that?" he yelled to himself, slowly pulling the car to the side of the road as it slowed to a halt. He was in the city, nowhere very familiar though. He turned off the engine and put the keys into his pocket, making sure to lock the door as he got out. As he put the keys in his pocket, he heard the clang of metal against metal, then remembering he still had the quarter from the movie theater. Skye quickly spotted a payphone no more than 50 feet away and walked over to it. "I'll just call mom and dad, they'll come pick me up and get a tow truck for my car." Skye figured. He picked up the receiver and pushed the quarter in the slot, waiting for the confirmation *clink* that the quarter had registered. Instead he had no such luck. No dial tone came up, which mean that the quarter had gotten stuck somewhere on the way. "Huh? What the." Skye muttered. He banged his paw against the phone, hoping to knock his money down, but fate was still against him. "Damnit!" he yelled. "What the hell is up with this? Is this some sick game that people are playing that I don't know about?" He hung up the phone with anger, and the sound of the quarter dropping to the bottom was heard after he had slammed down the receiver. "Aaaaarrrgggghhhh!" he yelled again, clenching his fists. Admitting defeat, he walked back to his car and sat on the hood of it, pondering how he could get back home. His reasoning was clouded yet again by the thought of Jak, and everything else he had thought of at the theater. He growled at himself for not being able to concentrate. Skye wrapped his arms around himself as he shivered. He looked to the sky. The sun had started to go down. How long had he been sitting there? Skye looked at his watch, realizing that it was almost 6:30. "Great, I'm gonna die out here." Skye said to himself sarcastically. He hung his legs off the edge of the hood, gently kicking the heels of his shoes into the sides, moping slightly. Almost out of nowhere, the first car he had seen since he had been stranded there pulled up next to his own and stopped. It was a black Chevrolet, although he couldn't tell what type; he wasn't particularly fond of cars. The windows were slightly tinted and he couldn't tell who was inside at first, but the driver's side door opened and someone stepped out. "Jak? Is that you?" Skye said, startled. The distinct white fur was visible as Jak stood up and out of his car. "Um, yeah. You stuck or something?" Jak said, nervously. Skye hopped off his hood and kicked one of his own tires. "Yeah the damn thing ran outta gas a few hours ago. Then the payphone over there ate my quarter so I've been stuck here for." he looked at Jak before finishing his sentence. "Sorry." he apologized. "I shouldn't rant at you like that." Jak smiled. "It's alright, I've been in the same situation before." Skye looked at him and smiled when Jak smiled, it was a rare occasion. "You need a ride then Skye?" Jak asked. He had a lot more confidence in his voice this time. "Yeah! That is." Skye trailed off. ".if you don't mind. I know I acted kinda weird in the theater." Jak's eyes widened. "That was you?! I couldn't tell, it was too dark. So you're the one whose paw I put mine on." Skye gave a nervous laugh. "Heh, yeah. I sorta freaked out didn't I?" Jak laughed a bit. Skye had never heard Jak laugh before, but it was like music to his ears. "Yeah just a little. And that was your tail too." Jak said, and he snickered. Skye blushed a bit, his white fur on his cheeks turning red. Jak smiled again. "Don't worry about it, c'mon, get in." He got in his car and opened the passenger side door for Skye. Skye hopped in and sank into the seat, fastening his seatbelt. With that, Jak started to drive out of the city. Part Four "Thanks again for offering me the ride Jak, I really appreciate it." Skye casually said as he rode along. "Oh no problem. As I said before, I was in the same situation once. But nobody came to help me, so I had to walk home." Jak remarked, quickly glancing at Skye. "I didn't wanna see someone else in the same situation." Skye smiled at that. "Jak, do you mind me asking you something?" Jak's smile faded back to an indifferent expression. "Um, sure, I guess. What is it?" "Why were you at the movie alone?" Skye asked. Jak didn't answer for a moment. He started to talk several times, but paused before finishing any of his sentences. Finally he spoke up. "To be honest Skye, I don't know. It doesn't seem normal for a teenage guy to go see one of those movies by himself. At least, that's what the general population thinks. But me? I like them. There's something about those movies, the "Chick Flicks" as everyone calls 'em that I enjoy. I can't quite figure out what though." he says, stifling a laugh. "Wow, I can't believe I just told you that. I haven't told anyone that." Skye smiled. "We all have different tastes y'know." Jak nodded, understanding. "Yeah that's true. It just really bugs me how everything has to be one way, that normal is such a narrow spectrum." Skye leaned back in his seat. "You don't know the half of it, Jak." Jak raised an eyebrow. "Oh? What do you mean?" he asked inquisitively. Skye blushed again, somewhat slinking down. "Oh, nothing." "C'mon, I just told you that I enjoy "Chick Flicks". You can probably tell me anything without phasing me." Skye hesitated, a minute, then went with his conscience. "Well, I can't so much tell you, as show you what I was talking about." Jak didn't say anything to this, he kept driving. "Jak pull over the car for a moment, I'll show you." Skye said nervously. Jak didn't hesitate much, pulling to the side of the road. Skye unbuckled his seatbelt, motioning for Jak to do the same. Skye waved his paw for Jak to lean in closer. "You have to be close to see." Skye said. "Um, Ok." Jak responded, leaning in as instructed. As soon as Jak had come close enough, Sky reached his paws behind Jak, pulling their muzzles together. He kissed Jak deeply, using his paws to keep them together. Jak struggled somewhat, trying to pull away, but Skye kept them together with his grasp. He savored the short moment, letting Jak pull back after only a few seconds. Jak just looked at Skye in astonishment while Skye lowered his head a bit, looking up at Jak. "Jak, I." Skye started. "Right, so I'll drop you off at home." Jak said, avoiding the topic. He fastened his seatbelt and peeled out from the side of the road. "Wait, Jak, I have to." Skye pleaded. "Skye I offered to take you home. I'm doing just that, now enjoy the ride." Neither of them said anything for the rest of the ride. Neither of them looked at each other. It was as if a wall separated them. The black Chevrolet pulled into Skye's driveway after what had seemed like an eternity, silence still embodying the car. "Jak! Please." Skye started again, almost in tears. Jak unbuckled himself and got out of the car. He went around to the other side an opened the passenger side door for Skye. Jak stood there, waiting for Skye to exit. Slowly Skye reached for his buckle release, and unbuckled himself. He stooped over to get out of the car, and stepped out. Jak hastily slammed the door shut, and started to walk around to his door. "Jak, I'm so sorry." Skye said, now sobbing. "You're welcome, Skye." Jak yelled, getting in the car and speeding off. Skye walked into his house in tears. His dinner was on the table, and his parents were already eating. "Well nice of you to join us mister." his father said sternly. Skye didn't say anything back. He walked upstairs to his room and slammed the door shut, locking it behind him. He jumped on his bed with his clothes and shoes still on, burying his face in his pillow. "Way to go, moron. You just blew it. Everything, every and any chance you had, gone." he choked out to himself through his tears. Footsteps coming up the stairs could be heard. Skye quickly turned on his stereo to some rock music and turned it way up, so he couldn't hear anything else. "Please just go away." he cried softly, even though he knew his parents couldn't hear him. Faintly behind the music, the footsteps receded down the stairs, and he turned the music down low, continuing to sob. He reached for a tissue and wiped his eyes and muzzle, but the effort was futile. For every tear he soaked up another five were produced in the process. Skye fell asleep not too long afterwards. It was early for him to go to bed, in his clothes no less, but he didn't seem to care. Sunday was spent much the same way. Skye managed to call the towing service to bring his car to the nearest shop. Unfortunately, without any money, he couldn't get gas for it, and he didn't feel like begging his parents for cash, especially not in his current mood. Instead, he moped around the house, not saying a word. He barely touched food, and regressed to his room on more than one occasion to play his music and sob. "So much for the weekend." he cried that night, fading into his sleep, which brought him back to Monday. Part Five Skye woke up Monday morning and called Becca for a ride to school, explaining what had happened with his car. He had left out the details of the ride home, simply stating that a friend had found him instead. She more than willingly obliged, and even offered to give him a ride to work that afternoon. Skye accepted gratefully, and got ready for school, still sullen and downtrodden from the recent experiences. The day began like any other. First period was History, second period Physical Education, and so on and so on. That is, until fifth period Math class. Skye walked in and sat down at his desk in the front row. He hated that seat, the teacher could always see him if he fell asleep, which meant extra homework and detention. He watched as the room started to fill with familiar faces, friends, and enemies, all that he saw every Monday anyway. He particularly noticed Jak as his feline figure entered the doorway. Jak had a somber look on his face and walked in with his eyes to the floor. Jak sat four seats behind Skye, in the same row. As Jak passed by to get to his seat, Skye noticed a folded sheet of paper fall out of his Jack's backpack and onto his own. "Hey, Jak you drop." Skye started to say, bending down to pick up the paper. Jak didn't stop however, and kept walking to his own desk, sitting down heavily and avoiding eye contact with Skye. Skye looked at the folded piece of paper. He flipped it over and written in pen, in big letters, was his own name. He put it on his desk and slowly opened it. There were obvious tearstains all over it, and some of the ink was smudged, although still legible, because of them. Skye slowly read the letter to himself in his mind. Skye, I'm just about as good at writing my words as I am speaking them, but here goes nothing. I'm sorry for how I reacted the other day. I've been confused for the longest time, and what you "showed" me in the car was more than my circuits could handle. I've noticed you in the halls, and every Monday when I come in for dinner at that shop, you're there. You always smile when I come in, and you know what I want, like you can read my mind. Nobody else is like that towards me. I just don't know what to think about it right now. I overreacted is all. I'm sorry. I hope you're not too mad to talk to me. There's something I need to say tonight when I get to your restaurant, but I'll be a little late, if that's OK with you. I hope I'll see you later. -Jak Skye folded the note up, smiling a bit, and put it in his pocket for safekeeping. He didn't look back at Jak at all, and left the classroom quickly when the period was over. For that reason or another, the rest of his day at school went by like a blur, and before he knew it, Becca was driving him to the parlor. Jason was just getting there as well, and the boss, like always, was in the back office eating away at the profits. "Heya Skye, how was your weekend?" Jason asked, noticing the fox come in. "Oh, heya Jason." he replied. "My weekend? Um, interesting." "Oh really? Why what happened?" "Well nothing actually." "Now even you know that I can see through that lie." Skye sighed. "Look I just don't want to talk about it, 'kay?" Jason backed off. "Alright, alright. Jeez, sorry. Just say so next time. Hope everything's alright." As Skye threw the apron on, the piece of paper he had stashed in his pocket fell out, without him noticing. Jason, however, did notice, and stooped down to pick it up. He quickly read it over, and looked at Skye who was concentrated on setting up his cash till at the register. "Oh nothing really? What's this then?" Jason said, holding up the paper with Skye's name facing Skye. Skye's eyes widened, he put his paws in his pockets. Both empty. "Hey give that back!" he yelled. "Not 'till you tell me what's going on." "Fine, keep it." Skye grumbled and started to get ready for customers. Jason walked over to Skye and put the paper on the counter for him. "Look," he said. "I'm just worried about you sometimes is all. You work yourself stupid and from the attitude I get, you push yourself in school as well." Skye looked to Jason. "Did Becca have a chat with you?" "Who?" "Never mind." Jason continued, "Look, all I'm saying is that you need to take some time to yourself. If this letter is saying what I think it's saying, I say go for it. I don't know what happened over the weekend and I don't want to know, but that Jak sure sounds like he's interested in you." Skye sighs. "You think? Because to be honest I did something that I shouldn't have, and I figured I blew it. I just dunno what to make of the letter." Jason looked Skye in the eyes. "Then don't make anything of it, and let it all roll out how it was meant to. In the meantime, we have customers." he said, going back to making the pizzas. Skye turned to look at the line that has formed in front of his register. He took orders until there weren't any more to be taken, occasionally helping Jason with the creations when he had a spare second. Skye and Jason both looked to the clock at the same time, "Six o'clock" they said in unison. "Time for the regulars." Skye commented. The group of friends headed by the wolf came in first as always. This time there were about 13 of them, an average number. The wolf ordered two sheet cheese pizzas like every Monday, and paid the $10.99 with a $20, like every Monday. Jason came to the counter 15 minutes later with the finished products, the wolf taking them and saying "Thanks" to Skye, then walking out of the shop with his friends. Right afterwards the rabbit family came in, hustling and bustling about like every other Monday. The mother entertained the children and the father ordered a large pepperoni pizza along with two slices of plain cheese pizza. Jason scampered out from his station 15 minutes later with the food, and the children cheered as they left the store; mother in the lead, children in the middle and the father picking up the back, as always. Skye picked up the usual piece of cheese pizza and put it in a styrofoam container, snapping the tabs in, thus sealing it off. He waited at the counter for a while and now and then he glanced at the clock. "8:47, he said he would be late, but how late did he mean?" he said, loud enough for Jason to hear. "If he said he'd be here, he'll be here." Jason replied, already having cleaned the counter off. The night shift had arrived already but Jason and Skye had stayed anyway. "I suppose you're ri." Skye's voice was cut off by the sound of the bell on the door jingling, meaning someone had come in. Skye looked to the door anxiously, and as expected, it was Jak. He smiled as Jak entered the shop. "Heya Jak, how you feeling?" Skye asked. "Better." Jak responded. "I thought you left at 8:30?" Skye walked around to the other side of the counter, grabbing the container and handing it to Jak. "So?" he replied with a gentle smile. Jak smiled back. "How much do I owe you?" Skye turned his head, looking back to the boss in the backroom who was chomping down on pieces of pizza like he did every Monday. "It's on me Jak." Skye said with a slight chuckle. Jak took the pizza graciously and spoke again. "Skye, did you read the letter?" Skye nods. "Yeah, top to bottom." Jak kept going, "Then you know there was something I wanted to tell you." Skye nodded, smiling. "Yeah, what was it?" Jak whispered something into Skye's ear. Skye turned his head from the whisper, looking at Jak as he smiled, watching Jak's face redden as his cheeks blush. The two started walking out of the shop, together. Jak suddenly asked Skye, "You need a ride home?" Skye smiled, nodding. "Yeah, that'd be nice." Jason walked out of the shop, leaning in the doorway as he watched a black Chevrolet round the corner. "Like every other Monday, see ya tomorrow Skye." Part Six That week went by fast, and things started to look up for both Jak and Skye. Skye managed to talk to his boss about cutting his hours back down to the normal schedule, and Jak got moved to a different department in the hardware store, which he was happy about. Luckily, the extra money that Skye made by working more the week before allowed him to pay for his car bill, and he got it back with ease. Additionally, with a little bit of persuasion, Skye managed to convince his math teacher to switch his seats, and he ended up sitting next to Jak in the back row. The Monday following the reconciliation was different. It was nearing 8:30, and Jak had just come in to get his "complementary" pizza. Skye took off his apron and gave Jak his dinner, hopping over the counter to leave with Jak. "Skye, wait a second!" It was Jason, running to the doorway to catch Skye before he left. Skye turned to Jak for a second. "Wait outside, I'll be right there." Jak nodded and kept walking. Skye remained in the shop, facing Jason. "Whatcha need bud?" Skye asked. "Skye, last Monday, I'm just curious." Jason said. "What is it?" "What did Jak, 'Have to tell you' ?" Skye smiled, and sighed a bit. "Well? What did he say?" Jason asked, impatiently. "He wanted me to show him again." Skye said, leaving Jason with a puzzled look on his face, and ending his day. His Monday.
