The men and women, brave enough and talented, to hold the position of fighter pilots have my envy and respect. I often gazed after them with eyes that dreamt of the past and most of all the future. I liked the way they carried themselves with pride and the way their uniforms made them appear so brave and majestic. That was a life I wished for myself and was intent on achieving. The vision of those people brought back my childhood dreams. I remembered myself as a tiny little toddler watching television through the eyes of one where dreams where almost realistic enough to be real. I watched men and women just like the ones I see now with the same envy and even then I said to myself, this is where I want to be. Eric. It wasn't the first time he played this fantasy, and not at all the last time he would. The silky lips of the luscious woman stroking his own, enough of a beckoning force for him to return again and again. His hands roaming over her firm body. Her breasts heaving as they pressed to his chest. This was heaven, this was his day of. He had been working pretty hard the past few days and the leisure awaiting him hard to pass by. He like so many others intoxicated with lust for the new cyber mate available on the holo vid, or holo video, invention introduced to the public at the early 23 century. The same time as the war began, a war none had imagined, a war which by comparison made the third world war look as a walk in the park. It was the same year human kind had encountered the animal people or as called today the furs. The war had started like so many others, brought forth by greed, a squabble over something as simple as ore. The valuable quantity was the start to a feud which later evolved into something deeper, a struggle driven by racial motivated hatred. Now, many many years later, the war was at a stand still and light on the horizon, something unlikely, probably impossible. Neither side could rest nor forget their anger and hate, both keeping the memory of the beginning as a blurred image, further confused by the history books. The war was simply to complicated for mere mortals to unleash themselves from its destructive coils. Drafting had reached him as all others and flight was what he did best, the dream of perhaps piloting a fighter still vivid in his mind as the months flashed by, it was a dream yet one he was determined on making reality. It was merely a matter of time. He ran his hands up the firm silky warm layer of her naked thigh as his lips continued to embrace hers, the thoughts left his mind, forgotten in the throes of passion. * The dot was a puzzle. The man scratched his head as he pushed his glasses up on his nose, his eyes ever alert and fast upon the electronic spot upon the radar consol. It might be a bug in the wires but he wasn't going to pin it just yet, safety always came first, not his own but of the other people he served with. He put his cup to his lips and savoured the caffeine rush coursing through his body, even as he put it down on the small work station before him. He pivoted his chair. "Sir. Possible incoming bogies." A proud looking man with a regal veteran look to his eyes gazed at the passing stars as he replied. He like the other wore a similar uniform much like the ones used back in the 21 century, old habits died late. "Ay. I think it unlikely the empire has gotten ships this deep into terran space. Keep your eyes to it though lieutenant." "I think it might be a glitch sir. The dot is, well how should I explain it, unstable. Blinks in and out." The other man replied, his answer distorted just slightly by his relentless sipping of the cup. The higher ranking man, gazed at him for a moment, lifting his eyebrows in a slightly amused expression as his hands clenched behind his back. He loosed a somewhat tired sounding sigh as he arched his back, glaring at the younger man. He didn't blame him for fatigue, they were after all operating on a skeleton crew and the late hours like the one they were getting through right there left them with even more limited resources. The bridge operated on simply those two men, but after all, that was enough. "The furs are known for their sneaky antics lieutenant. One quite ingenious strategy they employ fits this behaviour the radar is showing. They would then approach the convoy or ship slowly, turning their cloaks on and of in a random weave, fooling us into believing there was a glitch in our system, cloaking before visual range and then when it is to late and we have fallen for it, the beast closes it's claws." The last words drawn out in a whisper, awing the new recruit. "Ay sir I shall keep my mind and my eyes open." The younger man replied as he kept his attention to the screen, eyes glazed with fatigue. * He put his fingers to her fiery red hair, the texture stroking against his fingertips. Her hands roamed everywhere on his body as they moved to push closer to one another, it felt almost real. She didn't say anything besides a moan here and there. He didn't expect her to say a word, it wasn't like she was capable of saying anything. It seemed so real however and he so wanted to fuck her, she was so beautiful and her breasts against his chest were driving him mad with lust. They rolled around in a passionate wrestling match, upon the king size bed. The pillows had long since fallen to the floor and playful atmosphere seemed to rule, it was amazing how such a virtual character seemed to respond in a realistic way and how real she looked. He could smell her and he could fondle her. He could hear her and feel her. This playful game ended with the two of them laying on their sides, hands roaming on the other. He kissed her again, his tongue pushing against hers as his hand came between her legs. She was quite moist and the look in her eyes entailed the willingness, her own soft and warm hand stroking at his crotch. He pushed against her hand, the sweet pressure driving him to impossible levels. He moved on top of her. This time there was no coming back from the peak which he had reached. * Ben Richards had known the air force for quite many years now. His career had started of slow, perhaps by his own fault, being a slow yet efficient thinker. He was by anyone's standard a veteran and his merit not to be questioned. Learning how to cope with his own disadvantages had later on proved to be one of his strengths. He liked to valuate each situation as thoroughly as time allowed. His motto, one mistake, last mistake. He was indeed valuating this situation and something did not strike him as quite right. He was the first mate and safety for his people came first! "Sir, uhm who are you routing for?" The ensign asked, not really comfortable with striking conversation with the older man, yet game for the try. Michael Simmons wasn't really what you would call the popular type and talk did not come easy to him. That is the tactics required to win people over, the art of 'just' talking came easy and some might have stabled him a motor mouth. When he was feeling nervous and insecure, words didn't really come to him, yet were forced out of habit, a failsafe system which he somehow used to comfort himself, as if the sound of his own voice had a calming effect. The older man had noticed and sensed it but little did Michael know. Ben didn't move at all nor make any attempts to reply more then the mutter he made. He very well heard what his subordinate said, this was merely a time where idle chit chat had no place. This was also a time where the ships boxing tournament did not belong. "I think the tyrk is favourable." Michael said, blabbering on as he kept studying the radar signal, referring to John Straub, the ships massive cook. Who knows.. He thought. Maybe the little guy will take it this time. Hope not though. Ben laughed despite himself. "The little guy!" He said. The officer had made up his mind, this was to much of a coincidence. This couldn't be a bug he decided and the right course of action came very clearly to him. He strung his fingers against each other behind his back and closed his eyes. When he was going to open his mouth again, disaster struck. The floor moved under his feet, alive by the force of impact. Michaels cup found the floor, shattering, bits of porcelain flying everywhere. Both men could feel their stomachs move as if weightless as the ships nose took a plunge downwards before a massive shockwave coursed through space around them, it was a direct hit. Vibration lingered for a few seconds before the frightened voice of the younger man called out. "Direct hit sir. I'm reading a ship behind us, I don't understand where it came from sir, it just popped out of no where!" "Calm yourself ensign and scramble the fighters!" Ben replied. He was looking reserved as the whole ship vibrated in the aftermath of the explosion. He hadn't anticipated a strike so quickly and now the ship was probably severely damaged, but the fighters were hopefully getting ready to launch, that is if the fighter bay hadn't been destroyed. "Scramble on the air sir and all officers alerted to return to the bridge." Michael didn't really think that comment made much sense as he voiced it. With a notify delivered by a missile into the rear had just been received. "Give me damage report" The officer shot back. Michael pushed some buttons before replying. "Main power is at 34% but the armour seems to be holding." Both men gazed on as the alien aggressor came around by their side, readying another attack, it was fast. Michael was filled with fear and uncertainty, Ben was pondering. "What's the status of the unidentified contact?" He asked. "Range is 10.000 miles and closing fast, the dot is holding fast now, it's not a glitch." He replied with dread, his eyes on the closing ship to their side, it was so small and puny somehow. It was a ship belonging to the furs obviously, judging by the black and red paint job and the faint blue hue surrounding it, the foes new invention, shields. Ben stroked his chin as he gazed towards the enemy before them. They prove clever, the hairy bastards. He thought. "They must have come at our backs at full warp, that's how they surprised us. I must say I admire that ships captain, he could have killed himself by doing that, coming out of warp so close to an obstacle." He said. This time both men began to doubt. * Eric was almost to the peaceful point of slumber when the heavy impact roused him in the arms of the red headed woman. He almost fell to the floor as the lights went out and the bed riveted by the heavy vibration. Something serious just happened. He found himself laying on the floor instead of the comfortable bed. He felt something quite new, although a feeling felt before. He felt fear as real as it could be, not the fake sensations he felt on the holo vid. This time he felt as if he really could be harmed, it had to be an attack. Doing his best to put those feelings aside he put his legs under him and ascended to his feet. Ever so slowly he felt his way through the dark to the place where he felt the door must be. It took him a whole lot of time merely to find it. Running his hands against the wall as he made his way after it. There was something he had not thought of as he finally found that elusive door. The power was out, there was no way for him to open it. "Open!" He exclaimed. Nothing happened. The computer was out to, or it's reach of this floor. He tried to somehow pry the door open, before he figured out how stupid that was. There was no way he could open that door by the force of his hands alone, he needed help. Next thing on the agenda was banging on the door and then he tried shouting for help. It was no use, there was no one close who could help him. This predicament would have to be solved by himself. There was nothing he could do but sit down now, leaning against the door. He did the only thing he could and that was to ponder. Would he ever get out of there? Yes he would, he thought and reprimanded himself for being so childish. It didn't do for a fully grown man and a soldier at that to be afraid of the dark. He pressed his ear against the door and listened. He heard nothing. The only sounds that of water dripping here and there, perhaps in the event of broken water pipes, the water flow broken off. The door hit him in the back as a second impact threw him onto the floor like a rag doll. His back aching where the door had hit him and the bones in his body shuddering as a heavy vibration shook everything, coursing through the floor beneath him. The last explosion had been heavy and that did not bode good. The smaller ones following and the silence after that terrifying. He wished he could go out there with the other soldiers, to ride into battle in a fighter, that is if this really was an attack. Time flouted before his eyes and he seemed somehow for the first time to really note it. Eric didn't really like the way he was getting to know it. The dark so familiar now. He had been there for probably hours now and his eyes long adjusted to the dark. The lack of light was like a companion now. He couldn't even really remember how it was to see lights reflected on surfaces. How silly! He thought. He hadn't been there all that long. He was sure it had been hours but days it was not. Like the dark, fear had become a companion. Fear was the dark figure he could not see, lurking in the darkness. Perhaps it was coming for him from beyond the door he leaned against. Maybe the ship had been invaded? Who knew. The room filled with light coming from behind his back, the sound of an opening door and shuffling feet. He fell backwards and instantly he noticed the furry legs besides him and then he was gazing up at the figure. It was one of the furries, his worst nightmare come alive and now his instincts took over. The canine like being didn't know what hit him. All he saw was the human that appeared by his feet and then the floor was coming to meet him. He felt as if he was sleeping, laying dazed until he blacked out. Eric said praise to the goddess of luck as the furry soldier hit his head on the way down. The figure wasn't going to regain his feet for awhile at least. Checking his pulls he saw that he was alive. What should he do. He thought. Killing a helpless being was not something he would like to do. He could hear footfalls of in the distance yet the echo brought back to him was unusual. Instead of the usual thuds he heard faint clicks followed by each impact, like claws. It couldn't be humans. He dragged the fur into the room, scavenging the hand gun from it's claws. pulling the unconscious alien up into a sitting position he had a cover. Just when he gained his defensive position the aliens were upon him. The furs tended to torture their captives. Eat them even he had heard. Images of those stories besieged his mind as his position came clear. Then one of them talked. "Give up human." Came the voice, clearly male. "If you shoot you'll kill your friend!" The human shouted back. His voice shaking from within. The volume fading somewhat in the end. He heard voices from beyond the edge of the hallway were his enemies were hiding. They seemed to be talking amongst themselves. Hopefully they were confused and then perhaps he would gain sometime for help to arrive. As in reply to his thoughts one of them spoke up. "There is no help coming human, no one is going to help you. The ship is ours. Give up and you won't be harmed." He didn't believe him off course. It had to be a lie. "Fuck you animal." He shouted back. His voice however coming weak instead of the intended strong. No reply came back. No angry fur coming at him with a gun. No long sleep behind the corner, yet he knew that it would be coming. He could hear them talking amongst themselves. They were so close he could hear every word uttered. They must have been using some kind of translator since he could understand everything they were saying. For awhile it remained a stand still, then he heard something new. "What's going on here?" A female voice rang out. The one presumably in charge uttered something back and then there was simple silence. "Jeez. This has gone far enough. He's just a child!" The female voice added. "Yes maybe but he has already killed one of us!" The other said. "That's enough commander." Those were the last words he heard before suddenly she stepped around the corner and walked slowly but steadily towards him. It was a grim looking vixen. Raven black fur trimmed short, she was relatively invisible in the slight light of the corridor. The hair upon her head gleamed red to the bluish illumination. She was wearing something that shook the human out of his mind. She was wearing a skin tight leather suit, over her whole body. He froze when he saw her. What should he do? Shoot her! The voice in his head told him, yet his body would not function. It was like she had a spell on him. He couldn't move. Something about the look in her eyes fascinated him and at the same time made him wish he could rather die then face her. The look terrified him, they were so kind yet so cruel at the same time. There was something about her that made him want to sigh. She kept her pace. Walking towards him and gave no hint of stopping. She was probably coming to kill him he thought, yet he didn't shoot. He kept them gun aimed at her though but he just couldn't bring himself to shoot. There was just something about her. The gun was suddenly removed from his hands and his eyes came up from their dazed state. She was gazing down at him, a slight frown upon her face, the underlying amusement so obvious. He looked up into her eyes. The blue orbs studied him for awhile. She seemed somehow surprised, perhaps pleased. "This one comes with me!" The vixen said, loud enough for the others to hear. "Are you going to hurt me?" He asked. The knot in his stomach was now travelling to his neck, making an impact on his speech. "Yes pet, but Later." She said. Then for him the dark sleep came and all was over. End of chapter one. This tale is a work of fiction. Copyrighted to 'Snudur'. Any altering of any kind is prohibited.
